The prelude is based on the familiar Irish tune, "The King of Love My Shepherd Is", hymn 645. The setting is by the American contemporary, Edwin T Childs (b. 1945), PHD from the Eastman School of Music; he resides in the Chicago area, where he teaches and composes.
Our opening hymn, 391, is a paraphrase of Psalm 100, "Before the Lord's eternal throne", and relates to the reading from Genesis.
The Gospel hymn is from southern harmony, and is, I think, also familiar. It is "Forgive our sins as we forgive", 674.
The 20th century anthem is the well known "A Prayer of St Richard of Chichester", by L.J. White.
Communion hymns are 445, "Praise to the Holiest in the height, and in the depth be praise", and 669, "Commit thou all that grieves thee"-- you will know this tune from Palm Sunday's "O sacred head now wounded".
Closing, we will sing one of the all time favorites, "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation", 390.
The postlude is based on a tune in our hymnal twice -- 408 & 598-- tune name "Mit Freuden Zart", and is a setting by the young American composer, Jacob B Weber, who also is Associate Editor of Concordia Publishing Co. A very convenient job for a composer!
